 Many of our wood sculptures are made of ebony. Surprisingly, this small tree is in the same genus as the persimmon. Primarily found in the tropics, ebony wood has been valued since ancient times. It is hard and dark, and varies from deep black to dark red, among other colors. It can also be striped with black or shades of brown. These variations are evident in our selection of wood sculptures. Moisture, mineral content of the soil, and the age of the tree are some of the factors that determine coloration. Darker ebony is generally found at higher altitudes and from older trees.
