Tonga Baskets

These baskets are known as the Tonga baskets and are from Zambia. These are hand woven by the Tonga tribal women and each one is hand woven and takes several days to make. They are made from the Ilala palm, which grows naturally in their area but is also now planted by the Tonga people to enable them to make the baskets in sufficient quantities to sale. The Tonga people are originally from Malawi but some are settled around the neighboring countries of Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Each basket is unique and no two will be the same, though we have taken individual photos of the tray sets below and the pattern you see and order is what you will get.
The size of the large basket is approximately 17" diameter and the small one being approximately 14", though they will vary plus or minus 1" to 2" inches.
