According to Chokwe belief, ancestral spirits play a crucial role in their living descendants. The ancestral spirits protect the people from intruders and evil supernatural elements. The most powerful and important Chokwe mask is known as chikunga.
For the Chokwe people, the Chikunga is a sacred ceremonial mask and is considered to be the most powerful mask to be worn by their tribal chief. |
