Yoruba drum statue

Drums are still a very important form of communication in Africa, whether they are used in rituals, celebration and any form of communication. To this day, it is common to hear drums in the distance whilst out in the African wilderness.Whilst communication is now being made more available to rural African communities by way of cell-phones, their traditional roots fortunately run deep, and the marvellous African drum will remain with us. Another example of traditional African communication is the use of flags. For example, whilst driving through Zululand, you will see flags raised in the various kraals (homesteads) dotted around the hills. The different colors, denoting a certain event, a white flag for example, announces a wedding. This is a very nice ornamental piece, and due to age there are two very small holes on the skin of the drum.
