Ebony carved Masai mask

This piece is made from ebony wood. This heavy wood is one of the most diffcult to carve from, and the fact that only sharp knives are used, make these carvings even more unique, a true testament to the skill of the Makonde woodcarvers.The Makonde have made a name for themselves in the world of skilled wood sculpture, and have become the subject of several academic studies. This gift has been passed down through the generations. These tribesmen are from the southern regions of Tanzania and northern Mozambique. As all of our products are hand-carved, no two pieces will be exactly the same. A typical assortment of these masks are shown, if you want a particular style (for eaxmple, all black) please indicate this in the checkout notes and we will do our best to accomodate you, if we cannot, we will call you before shipping.
