The Xhosa speaking people are believed to be the oldest of the southern African tribes. Recent archaeological research suggests that the Xhosa have been inhabitants of the Eastern Cape region from as far back as the 7^th century AD. The eastern South African coastal region is spectacular and often referred to as the Wild Coast.

Amongst the Xhosa, smoking a pipe is the prerogative of men and older women, which is symbolic of their status. The pipe is handmade from a single piece of wood. The mouthpiece, made from reed, is detachable. When the pipe is borrowed, it is customary for the borrower to insert their own mouthpiece.

We will include a complimentary hand made kraal (homestead) with each purchase as shown. Each doll is unique and will be taken off the site on purchase.
