Ashanti Beaded Mask Stool.

Beautifully hand crafted with glass beads, cowry shells and metal. Its double sided so you can face it either way. The top of the stool also has beadwork design of the "Sankofa" bird. The "Sankofa" bird was derived from King Adinkera of Ghana.

Different variation of these stools are one of the most carved objects in Ghana. The village of Ahwaa near Kumasi is noted for carving these stools. After shaping the wood in the form of a stool, the carver carefully depicts the symbol that corresponds to the name of that particular stool. The Artist finishes the stool by smoothing it with leaves that are rough textured like sand paper. In national annual festivals, such as the Odwika, chiefs visit their local stool shrines and perform traditional ceremonies. Some stools were once only used by men.
