Antique Fulani - female

The Fulani are one of the largest nomadic tribes of western Africa. Like the Masai from Kenya, and typical of many African societies, cattle is central to their lives, politically, socially and economically.

This regal, traditional style carving made from sese wood stands at six foot tall! The delicate pastels and thin intricate aluminum overlays are finely blended with the lateral style carvings in the wood. A beautiful and elegant feature that is striking when well lit in the home. One of the most important aspects of African art is form (not cracks and artistic "defects"), our carvers certainly got these right!
